A delegation of students and teachers from the Swedish maritime school Marina Läroverket visited PLOCAN’s facilities in Taliarte, as part of their training course on board of the ship school Älva in Canarian waters. This visit allowed them to learn more about the Consortium’s main lines of action and capabilities, as well as about the facilities and the scientific and technical equipments used for these actions.

Marina Läroverket is a school with its headquarters in Stocksund Port, Stockholm, which provides Secondary and Adult education, as well as independent courses available on demand, related to oceanography, marine biology, geology and marine technologies, among others, which are mainly based on fieldwork aboard its ship school fleet.

The eighth edition of the Martech Workshop Meeting on Marine Technology has taken a relevant step on the international scene. It was held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and, during it, PLOCAN provided results obtained within the framework of the AtlantOS Project in various Glider missions and in collaborative experiments.

During the 10th and 11th of December the last advances and technological developments in marine robotics, operational oceanography, remote sensing, underwater image and data communication, seabed mapping, marine renewable energies, aquaculture, structures and materials, etc., were presented at the Martech Workshop, grouping a large amount of international investigation groups and companies.

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has contributed, once again, with two oral reports related to the results obtained within the framework of the AtlantOS Project in various Glider missions and in collaborative experiments. AtlantOS is an ambitious investigation project led by the German institute GEOMAR, in which more than 60 institutions from 18 countries on both sides of the Atlantic work together in order to reinforce the existing cooperation networks and join forces to achieve shared goals.

Robótica Submarina

PLOCAN has launched the 2018/2019 edition of the Underwater Robotics (Face-to-face) Workshop, developed within the program of the ROVSTEAM project: STEAM Competencies Development through Low Cost Educative Marine Robotics, which is part of its initiative of Educative Underwater Robotics EDUROVs, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, “La Caixa” Foundation and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.

Evento OES

PLOCAN hosted the 35th Executive Committee meeting of the IEA-OES (International Energy Agency – Ocean Energy System) from the 28th to the 30th of November 2018, in collaboration with the MARINERG-I project and the Local Authority for Energy of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
