The winning pupils of Divulgaciencia, the scientific outreach competition held by the Caja Rioja Foundation for the last nine years, travelled to Gran Canaria to visit a number of places that included PLOCAN and the Oceanic Platform, the Spanish Bank of Algae and the Canary Islands Space Centre. Accompanied by their teachers, they also toured the capital city of the island and the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Gardens.

The students were shown around PLOCAN’s facilities in Taliarte and also had the opportunity to see the Oceanic Platform currently being built in Nelson Mandella Dock in the La Luz Port of Las Palmas.

A delegation from Indonesia made up of various business entities and governmental bodies related to the construction, shipping, maritime and tourism sectors, visited PLOCAN in order to find out about the work that the Singular Scientific and Technological Infrastructure does to attract researchers, projects and investment to the marine and maritime sector.

The visit, which followed a seminar on maritime and tourism infrastructure in Indonesia that was held in Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, enabled the Indonesian representatives to learn first-hand of the vision and objectives of PLOCAN, its scientific and technological capabilities, and some of its most relevant projects. The encounter also provided an opportunity for the parties to explore possible synergies with activities currently being carried out in Indonesia.
