Last week, the headquarters of ICM-CSIC in Barcelona is hosting the seventh MARTECH conference, which with each passing edition is becoming established as Spain’s leading forum on marine technology. The conference shows off the latest research and technological developments in fields including marine robotics, operational oceanography, marine sensors, underwater imaging and communications, sea floor mapping, renewable marine energy, aquaculture, and structures and materials, and brings together leading Spanish research groups and companies.
The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands is actively participating in this event, with two oral presentations relating to the AtlantOS and SWARMs European Projects in which PLOCAN is a partner.
The European Commission has agreed upon the constitution of the European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water-column Observatory – European Research Infrastructure Consortium (EMSO ERIC). The agreement was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 1st October. The member states for this infrastructure are Ireland, the Hellenic Republic, the Kingdom of Spain, the French Republic, the Italian Republic, the Portuguese Republic, Romania and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The entity representing Spain in EMSO is the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands.
