Macaronight

PLOCAN took part in "Macaronight, European Researchers’ Night" in Santa Catalina Park in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This is a public event, held throughout Europe, dedicated to popular science and learning through games funded by Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions. It takes place every September with some 30 countries and over 300 cities participating. The objective of European Researchers’ Night is to bring science and the daily life of researchers to the general public, around projects being implemented in Macaronesia.

smartblueIn order to drive the blue economy in the Macaronesia, partners of the SmartBlue Project agreed in the Azores to create the Macaronesian Marine Maritime Alliance to foster the creation of clusters of marine-maritime companies in their regions to explore the possibilities of breaking into international markets and to identify potential joint projects.

Kosmos2018

An international team of 50 marine scientists are participating in a study which aims to study the feasibility, effectiveness, associated risks and potential side effects of ocean artificial upwelling in fertilizing ocean productivity and enhancing energy transfer to higher trophic levels with the potential of raising fish production. Biologists, chemists, biogeochemists and physical oceanographers cooperate closely in the field experiment with KOSMOS mesocosms which will be conducted at Gran Canaria between October and December 2018.
