The director of the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), Manuel Miranda Medina, presided over a meeting of the Strategic Council of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN).
In the meeting of the Council, held at PLOCAN headquarters in Taliarte, new members joined the consortium: the deputy councillor to the President, José Miguel Barragán Cabrera, the deputy councillor for Taxation and Planning, Luis Padilla Macabeo, and the Director General of Industry and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Erasmo García de León. Also present at the meeting was the Director General of Innovation and Competitivity from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), María Luisa Castaño Marín, the deputy Director General of Scientific and Technological Infrastructure Planning, José Ignacio Doncel Morales, and the Head of the Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Infrastructure Planning, Ana Aricha Yanguas.
The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) will participate in the Canarian Science and Innovation Week, fairs from 12 – 14 November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the exhibit “The Macaronesian Ocean” and the delivery of talks about the Submarine Robotics Workshop for secondary school pupils 2015-2016, now in its 4th year.
On the 13th November, PLOCAN will also participate in the Science and Technology Fair at Fuerteventura Technology Park with the project EDUROVs (Submarine Robotics Workshop for secondary school pupils). Robots built in the previous workshop by pupils from participating schools in Fuerteventura will be presented.
This week, at the headquarters of the Hydrographic Institute (IH) of Portugal in Lisbon, a framework agreement for collaboration between IH and the PLOCAN consortium has been signed. Both institutions have been represented by their respective CEOs, Rear-Admiral Jose Luis Branco Seabra de Melo and Dr. Octavio Llinás.
Recently, a LARS (Launch And Recovery System) unit has been delivered to the PLOCAN consortium, through the supply contract with reference L-CSU-PA-5-2014, by the winner of the tender, Casco Antiguo Comercial.
