Juan María Vázquez, secretary general for Science and Innovation, chaired the ceremony to sign a co-operation agreement signed by the director of the Canary Island Oceanic Platform, Octavio Llinás, and Rafael Robaina, chancellor of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The signing ceremony was also attended by the director of the Canary Island Research, Innovation and Information Society Agency, Manuel Miranda Medina, and the deputy chancellors of Research, Innovation and Transfer, José Pablo Suárez Rivero, and Academic Organisation and Teaching Staff, Luis Domínguez Boada.

This agreement will enhance the mobility of researchers through planning and organisation, as the European Union has been doing through its R+D+i funding programmes. Furthermore, the agreement will increase co-operation between the two entities and will foster mobility amongst the research staff in order to engage in a range of R+D+I activities in the research centres and on projects.

The agreement implements the mobility figures envisaged in the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, as a result of close co-operation between the ULPGC and PLOCAN, and of the prospects of a significant increase in the joint work embarked on by the University and the Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure for R+D+I, especially in marine technologies.
