From 30th September until 11th October 2013, Tania Morales, trainee at PLOCAN, participated in a Short Time Scientific Mission (STSM) at the Centre for Maritime Research & Experimentation (CMRE), a scientific body of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),located in La Spezia (Italy), within the framework of the European project COST ES0904 (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).

The STSM was hosted by Dr. Álberto Álvarez and Bartolomé Garau and its main objective was working on glider's data management and visualization. The STSM focused on processing steps, data formats and quality control in both real-time and delayed mode.

During this period Tania Morales also attended the first workshop on military applications of underwater glider technology, held by CMRE during October 8-10. The objective of the workshop was exploring the applications of underwater glider technology to military operations, including case studies with gliders such as the environmental characterization of denied areas, passive detection of acoustic sources, sustained monitoring and surveillance of marine regions, multistatic acoustic detection, among others.
