Into the framework of the European project COST Action 0904, PLOCAN’s staff member under training period –Josue Viera- is doing along the whole week a training stay on underwater glider technology at CNRS-INSU (La Seyne-sur-Mer, France).

The overall purpose of the action is to share and increase knowledge level about the state of the art of the emerging marine monitoring technology that represents such autonomous unmanned platforms between European institutions linked to it, within a joint cooperation framework through projects and derived actions (missions, workshops, technological development,...)

More specifically, the stay at CNRS-INSU attempt to deepen on technical aspects such "Gliderport" infrastructure organization and management, vehicle setup and maintenance of both hardware and software, off-shore deployment and recovery maneuvers, piloting, data management and visualization, added value product information from gathered data, ... among others.

With four years duration and sixteen European countries consortium, the COST Action 0904 has among its main goals, to promote the use of gliders in operational oceanography and marine research, to coordinate international glider initiatives at scientific, technological and organizational level, as well as to develop tools and procedures for an efficient glider use through a coordinated and sustainable European infrastructure.
