10-05-2011. Students from the continuous training plan of PLOCAN (MaReS project) participated in the V EITE (School of Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering) cultural week in the university of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Among the activities organized during the celebration of the V EITE (Escuela de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación y Electrónica - School of Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering) Cultural Week, students from the Continuous Training Plan of PLOCAN (MaReS project) presented the work that they have been developing during their practical period about Operational Control of Oceanic Observations and Operations (C001/10-11/MaReS and C002/10-11/MaReS).

Many of the tasks performed by the students as part of their training are focused on areas related to the field of Electronics and Telecommunications, like fixed and mobile observing systems, underwater vehicles, new oceanographic sensors; they also get trained on meteorological-oceanographic monitoring parameters controlled by the study and validation of models or applications for the systematic organization of information in databases.

During the event José Joaquín Hernández Brito, PLOCAN Chief Operating Officer made the presentation entitled "Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN)", giving a general idea of the consortium concept; Eduardo Quevedo Gutiérrez, R&D Project Manager in PLOCAN, gave a talk on "Electronics and Telecommunications in PLOCAN", introducing the possible career opportunities for Communications and Electronics Engineers in the Oceanic Platform, which include scholarships or Master Theses.
