The Telde Municipal Council governing body agreed last Friday to grant Octavio Llinás the Ciudad de Telde Award for the Promotion of Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection. The mayor Francisco Santiago revealed the names of the winners during a press conference to announce the programme of events for the 2010 San Gregorio patron saint festival. The first ever prizes, granted in 2010, will be awarded in a ceremony in January 2011.

According to the mayor of Telde, “the committee decided to award the prize to Octavio Llinás González in recognition of his career and to promote his work as a researcher and as a driving force behind initiatives of enormous scientific value in the field of marine sciences, as well as his unquestionable catalysing role in turning Taliarte into a great telescope of the sea, with all the renown and benefits this brings to the town”.
