Mr.Lesly O'Reilly, Executive Director of the Technological and Marine Cluster in the Newfoundland and Labrador Canadian region (Inc. OceansAdvance), visited PLOCAN on the 2nd February 2010. The purpose of his visit was to settle down cooperation programs in the field of sciences and marine technologies.

He was joined by the representatives for economics and scientific affairs at the Embassy of Canada, Isidro García and David Ehinger, and by Ana Aricha, representative of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Besides, several visits to different entities were arranged; specifically to the Canary Islands Regional Council for Employment, Industry and Commerce, Government of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria and to the Corporation for the Economic Development of the Canary Islands.

 

These sessions have arise as a consequence of the first contact established between PLOCAN and the Canadian Embassy in Spain, and the subsequent visit of PLOCAN's Executive Director, along with other Spanish institutions, to different Canadian centres with an outstanding experience in the oceanographic and marine environment during November 2009.

 

The joint working sessions conducted have allowed the establishment of collaborative strategies in the maritime and marine sector between the Canary Islands and the Newfoundland and Labrador region. Likewise, the action plan was established for 2010. Among these actions, a Memorandum of Understanding between the two regions will be established, it is expected to carry out mutual visits of representatives´ delegations from diverse institutions and enterprises of the marine sector and finally, working meetings to prepare joint projects of mutual interest will be conducted.
