26-10-2009. Members of PLOCAN presented the initiative to executives and managers of the aforementioned institution.

Coinciding with the congress OCEANS'09 in Biloxi (MS, USA), members of PLOCAN made on Monday 26 October a specific guided visit to the premises of the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), currently located within the grounds of the Stennis Space Center (SSC) NASA, near New Orleans.

The visit had two clear objectives. On the one hand, to know at firsthand the protocols of technical organization and logistics; on the other hand, to have a better knowledge about the data management and administration of a world reference institution in the field of autonomous meteo-oceanographic observation as NDBC is, both in the coast an in the open ocean.

Likewise, a presentation was made to address the directives and heads of major sections of the NDBC, which served to show the capabilities and objectives of PLOCAN, as a Spanish national initiative of reference for research and technological development in the marine sector; particularlyt in this case, the activities related to monitoring the ocean through moored autonomous multidisciplinary platforms were presented.

The initiative was welcomed with much interest, including the possibility to define and develop strategies for future cooperation between both institutions in this field.
