Scientific Committee Meeting

02-11-2009. Prof. Gerold Wefer, Director of de MARUM and University de Bremen, was unanimously elected chairman of the Scientific Committee at its meeting of Constitution; Prof. Feliciano García from the Faculty of Nautical Studies at the University of La Laguna was elected secretary.

At thirteen hours in the boardroom of the Institutional Relations office of the Canary Islands Government in Madrid, it was held the first meeting of the Scientific Committee, establishing as such and proceeding to elect its chairman and secretary. Prof. Gerold Wefer, Director of MARUM, and Prof. Feliciano García from the Faculty of Nautical Studies, were unanimously elected chairman and secretary respectively.

During this meeting, an additional view of the technical-scientific project of the Consortium was presented to the attendees, which was complementary to the documents received in advance by the Committee members. Subsequently, there was an extensive discussion on the diverse aspects and details of the project.

 

Finally, and in accordance with their statutory responsibilities, the Committee members approved the report on the project, to be forwarded to the Governing Board of the Consortium. It highlights the important contribution that the PLOCAN initiative constitutes for the national scientific and technological development , and its potential in the international marine sector.
