The Face-to-Face Submarine Robotics Workshop kicked off its programme of activities on the 21st of March, welcoming a wide selection of schools to PLOCAN’s shore base in Taliarte, Telde. The workshop is part of the Project ROVINO: Robótica Submarina de Bajo Coste con Tecnología Arduino, (Low-Cost Submarine Robotics with Arduino Technology), which in turn is part of the Canary Island Oceanic Platform's iniciativa de Robótica Submarina Educativa EDUROVs (Educational Submarine Robotics EDUROVs Initiative), working in co-operation with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT in Spanish) – the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, the “Obra Social” Charity Foundation of La Caixa bank, the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the Canary Island Agency of Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), began its activity on 21st March, receiving several groups of students.

Two pupils from the Lycée Français, Sofía Garuz and Charlotte Pereira, did their job experience internship in PLOCAN between Monday the 3rd and Thursday the 6th of April. They recount their experience in a few short lines:

“Over the four days of our internship, we have gained an idea of what it means to work. Each person with their task and their responsibilities. We have discovered PLOCAN and its kind and welcoming workers.

Partners of the European Smart and Networking Under Water Robots in Co-operation Meshes (SWARMS) technology project, aimed mainly at extending the use of remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and Autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) technology and to improve the design, planning and implementation of off-shore maritime missions, met in Livorno, Italy, on the 16th and 17th of March to hold the consortium’s fourth plenary session.

The PLOCAN on-shore offices in Taliarte (Telde) hosted the kick-off meeting of the ROVINO project: Low Cost Submarine Robotics with Arduino Technology, which is part of the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform . This Project is working in co-operation with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT in Spanish) – the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, the “Obra Social” Charity Foundation of La Caixa bank, the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the Canary Island Agency of Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), and it has attracted 55 schools to take part.
