A part-scale prototype of a new single point mooring system will be installed at the Test Site of PLOCAN by a consortium of nine partners led by X1 Wind in 2020 within the framework of the PivotBuoy project (Advanced System for Cost-effective and Reliable Mooring, Connection, Installation & Operation of Floating Wind), led by X1 Wind and funded by the European Union in order to reduce the cost of floating wind energy.
PLOCAN participated in the 9th edition of FIMAR, which took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and was visited by more than 40.000 people, with the Educational Marine Robotics initiative EDUROVs. This initiative, funded by the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation, proposes the construction of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles).
PLOCAN has been incorporated to the European Ocean Observing System EuroGOOS, which is an association of national governmental agencies, research organizations, and private companies, committed to oceanography within the context of the intergovernmental Global Ocean Observing System(GOOS).
The final event of the ‘PrimROV: sea, science and robotics in Primary Education’ programme took place in the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands, with the participation of 270 students from nine schools of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife. During the event the participants presented their own designs of teleoperated robotic vessels, which were created and developed at their schools within the PrimROV programme.
