Proyecto CAPITEN

The Director of Tourism, Heritage and Waterways for the Regional Council of Brittany, Ronan Le Baccon, highlighted the development possibilities of the nautical industry in the Atlantic Arc, which is established from Scotland to the Canary Islands, during the CAPITEN (Atlantic Cluster for Technological and Economic Innovation in the Nautical Sector) project meeting organised by CETECIMA (Technology Center for Marine Sciences) at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands in Taliarte.

Ronan Le Baccon pointed out that Europe is an important nautical destination on a global scale. Moreover, he highlighted that the collaboration in tourism, industry and leisure port facilities benefits the European Union and partners in each region.

José Luis Guersi Sauret, president of CETECIMA, which is a partner of the CAPITEN project, accompanied Le Baccon, who pointed out that “we are trying to anticipate the future of the nautical industry in the Atlantic Art”. He explained that they are working in innovative products to attract people to go to sea; in construction and scrapping of ships and nautical components in a sustainable manner; in developing an offer with small cabotage routes to attract tourists; and in ensuring that ports become intermediate areas that project tourism to the sea and in facilitating knowledge exchange within the regions.

Furthermore, he appreciated the possibilities that the Canary Islands offer as part of the European Union's Atlantic Arc, developing competitive projects. CETECIMA participates in three work packages of the project: nautical industry, cabotage routes and marine routes.

CAPITEN (Atlantic Cluster for Technological and Economic Innovation in the Nautical Sector) is an European collaborative project that brings together 18 partners from Scotland, Ireland, France, Portugal and Spain.
