PLOCAN has been incorporated to the European Ocean Observing System EuroGOOS, which is an association of national governmental agencies, research organizations, and private companies, committed to oceanography within the context of the intergovernmental Global Ocean Observing System(GOOS).

The incorporation of PLOCAN to EuroGOOS took place during the Annual Assembly of the association at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) in Heraklion (Crete, Greece), with the presence of member institutions attached to the organization, workgroup leaders, and leaders of the regional Ocean Observing systems of EuroGOOS.

During the assembly the next EuroGOOS strategy 2020-2030 (high-level priorities, challenges, partnerships, and national benefits and advocacy) and the ways to achieve a better integration between the variety of EuroGOOS activities developed by EuroGOOS task teams (networks of ocean observing technologies) and working groups (on science, technology, data integration and coastal ocean) were discussed.

At the formal part of the meeting, three new members were approved to EuroGOOS: PLOCAN, SHOM (Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of France) and NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research). PLOCAN showcased its technological capabilities in ocean monitoring and future contributions to EuroGOOS.
