Taller Civitas

The Oceanic Platform of the Canay Islands organised an Underwater Robotics Workshop at CIVITAS Association, which was founded in March 1969, thanks to the initiative of a group of parents with children with intellectual disabilities, who tried to respond to the special educational and occupational needs of their children. Nowadays, the Association includes a Special Education Centre, an Occupational Centre and a Third-Party Support Centre, which offer their services to 250 members.

During the Workshop, the participants, divided into four groups, built four ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) from low cost tools. When they finished the process, they tested them in the swimming-pool of the centre.

Taller Civitas

This Workshop was developed within the program of the ROVSTEAM project: STEAM Competencies Development through Low Cost Educative Marine Robotics, which is part of its initiative of Educative Underwater Robotics EDUROVs. It proposes the construction of programmable marine robots in several areas for educational purposes, from low cost tools, with free hardware and software. Moreover, the project aims to carry out a science and technology dissemination that can reach more people and to incorporate more elements and technological tools appropriate to the different levels of education through a project-based learning methodology.

The ROVSTEAM project is part of the Educational, Marine Robotics Initiative EDUROVs, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT), the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the Obra Social Charity of La Caixa bank.
